SNAKES ON A PLANE ~ 2006

Another – WHAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTT? This movie? Is it good? NOPE. Is it awesome? YUP. Do I want to see it again? Who knows, depends on the mood. The line: “I’ve had it with these MO-FO-ing snakes on this MO-FO-ing plane” sums it up. Snakes bite boobs and peniles and everything else. Awesome, but hey, you know. It’s about snakes… on an airplane… that’s it. There’s SNAKES on an AIRPLANE. Nuff said.

SUCKER PUNCH ~ 2011

I liked this movie but it was pretty disappointing. I wanted more from this vis a vis 300 or WATCHMEN or DAWN OF THE DEAD. That did not happen and this was PG-13-ed to death. Oh well. Fantasy escapism using nubile young chicks. And robots. And giant Samurai. And zombies. And John Hamm. And lots of Techno.  I hope for better from the director, Zach Snyder but I have a sinking feeling I am NOT going to heart Russell Crowe’s new movie MAN OF STEEL.

GORILLAS IN THE MIST ~ 1988

There is only one reason to mention this movie and that is to remind my friends and I that we snuck a case of beer into the dollar movie theater however many years ago and drank the entire thing and then I was loaded and knocked over the empties and the bottles rolled all the way down the entire theater. Roooooool, clunk, roooooooooollllll, clunk, roooooolllllllll clunk. And then I passed out. And then my friend had to take me home and I thought it would be beneficial for me to do jumping jacks in the front yard. And then I went in and crashed in to all of the walls of my mom’s house and got grounded for one month. Youth = awesome!!

HOT ROD ~ 2007

WHAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTT????? That’s right. I LOVE this movie. There, it’s said. Now we can move on with our lives. This cracked me up from start to finish. It’s stupid, it’s SNL, it’s got D McBride and it also rocks! I can watch this all of the time. “YO!!! What up you Chode??!!” Hilarious stupidness.

ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND ~ 2004

This is a special HAR today. Normally I like to keep it short and sweet and I try to post a nice little collective of four or five subjects to keep my OCD at bay and have everything nicely numbered and rounded smoothly, but…

I’ve never met the Great Person behind Cinema Schminema but we meet around the electronic water cooler often and, since we’ve never met, I can’t attest to her physical nature but I’m a big tall guy and somehow she muscled me into watching a Jim Carrey movie. I have loathed this dude since the moment I saw him on that TV show and have given him a shot or two with The Mask and The Truman Show but he’s never caught on with me and I generally can’t stand his work. No offense, J.C. you’re just not my bag, I hope you understand and here’s a beer for you. Domestic, none of the high dollar stuff.

Anyway, she electronically batted her eyes and we made a deal that she’d watch something horrible if I gave this a shot and I said yes and —————— this was REALLY good. REALLY SAD and it made me want to cry and I emailed her asking why she did this to me because I’ve never been anything but nice to her but acknowledged that she was right. This was really good. The cast was fantastic and the script unbelievable and amazingly, somehow,  as much as I Kate Winslet, she was the only thing I didn’t love about this. I don’t know if it was her accent that put me off or the character but I will say that at the end, her acting made me get some tissues. Sniff, sniff.

So there you go – Cinema Schminema put up the good fight and won. Now we wait to see if she lives up to her end of the bargain 🙂

THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE ~ 1974

I like this movie. I had no idea people like Tony Scott liked this movie and wanted to make a remake. This original was terrific. I remember the “bad guy” worked on crossword puzzles while he waited. I do XWORDs. Walter Matthau was greatness.  I thought the new one was “OK” and filled with lots of action, but give me the old one or nothing. NOTHING!! Well, nothing in the “123” realm of things.
